Chemical Peels

Chemical peel is helpful for wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation such as freckles and age spots. Pre-cancerous conditions such as keratoses (thick, rough, reddish growths) also respond well to this procedure.

There are several types of chemical peels: Light peels remove superficial wrinkles, medium peels and deep peels are for more severe conditions.

After thoroughly cleansing the skin, a small applicator is used to apply the chemical solution to an area of the face. Excess solution is removed and the procedure is repeated on other areas.

The amount of improvement varies and depends upon the initial condition of the patient's skin. Significant improvement of damaged skin has been achieved, which can produce dramatic results.

From the time of the Egyptians, people have been rubbing acidic substances over their skin to enhance beauty. A number of compounds, including alpha-hydoxy acids (AHA) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) have been shown to have anti-aging and smoothing effects on the skin. A chemical peel is a procedure these substances, used alone or in combination, remove a layer of dead skin cells from the skin surface (exfoliation). As the dead skin cells are removed, newer, healthier ones take their place. The result is an improvement in skin smoothness and color. In combinat6ion with the proper skin care regimen, a chemical peel can greatly enhance the beauty and vitality of the skin.

Our South Florida office recommends the Obagi® Blue Peel. In a short 20 minute procedure, Dr. Sultan is able to control the depth and number of coats of the peel in order to tailor your results. The procedure can be done without anesthesia, although some patients prefer the luxury of being sedated. After the procedure, patients experience a mild burning sensation for a few minutes. There is a residual blue tint to the skin (this is how the depth of the peel is controlled) which gradually fades after 12-24 hours. Effects from the peel (swelling, peeling) usually begin after 2-3 days and should be healed after 7-10 days. Over the next 4-6 weeks, the appearance of your skin will dramatically improve. Other cosmetic procedures can be combined to be performed at the same time as the peel.

Your needs can be addressed with a combination program of our skin restoration system with a series of blue peels to give you the skin appearance you desire. Peels can be repeated over a 6-8 week period.
